The staff and boys at the ProNiño Las Flores campus were happy to welcome 7 new piglets to the ProNiño family earlier this month! The pig project started with the hard work of high school volunteers from Collegiate School in Richmond, VA, who spent time in the summer of 2011 building the pig pen at the Las Flores campus. The two original pigs, one male and one female, were donated by the Catholic University of Honduras.
Now the ProNiño boys have the responsibility of taking care of the piglets as well as the parents, making sure they are well fed and enjoy healthy, happy living conditions while learning valuable skills in animal raising. The pigs are just one opportunity for the kids to learn how to take care of things and work together as ProNiño community members—from our chicken coop to our extensive agriculture program the boys at ProNiño share in the process of creating sustainable food solutions for the foundation!
